On the 5th of April our little boy turned one! Already - Just can't seem to get my head around it!
His been such a blessing in our lives and we are truly grateful for every moment we get to spend with this bundle of joy!!
So, we had a PARTY!
Family and friends joined us for a morning of laughter and a few snacks -
But first the birthday cake
The party was inspired by Baby Einstein, a educational show Khai absolutely love! If one needs to give him any medicine we turn on the show and he is totally zoned in - Just love this about him -
Thus the Panda and other friends you'll meet a bit later
Back to the cake, my mother baked four layers sponge cake, two white and two chocolate. The layers was stacked with caramel condensed milk in between, the cake is covered with butter icing and then draped in a layer of white rolled fondant icing.
I've cut the letters of his name from black fondant icing and decorated the cake with stars and a baby panda bear which I built from tin foil and fondant icing.
I must admit it was my first attempt with fondant icing, but an absolute magical product, resembling potters clay, super easy to manipulate... A must try for anyone decorating cakes!
The cake was left overnight to 'dry', and oh boy, it was hmmm DELICIOUS!
The rest of the menu:
Biltong & Blue Cheese tarts
with fresh seasonal figs
Spinach Quiche
Rolled Cheese Mini Pancakes
Cinnamon $ Sugar Mini Pancakes
Peppermint Crisp tarts
Monster Jelly's
Ostrich & Beef Meatballs
Homemade Hummus
Homemade Dukah With Olive Oil and Olive Ciabatta
Olive straws, Rosemary & Olive Crackers
with Brie, Camembert, Cream cheese, baby tomatoes,
Biltong and Buttered Popcorn
Then we also had:
White Easter eggs
Caramel Chocolate Shortcake
Giant Ginger Biscuits
and
Oats Crunchies
Marshmallows & Liquorice
Our folded flowers fitted into the theme like a charm!
An idea we used on Nikah's Birthday as well was to ask each guest to write Khai a wish for his future!
It is so special to read them a few years later to see how they unconsciously grow to those wishes -
To drink, we had:
Fruit Iced Tea
Beer
Red Wine
&
Coffee or tea
Inspired by our theme, we made hand-puppets from white socks and felt, to play with at the party, Khai's little face lights up as soon as he sees one... They brought out the child in each person and smiles all around as the characters came alive!
As Khai started walking a week before his birthday we got him a Pewi Y-bike to assist his new skill
The sweetest sister!
HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY
my sweet boy!
We love you more than words!
